Room in the Inn Room in the Inn is a "moveable" crisis shelter for 12 women operated in partnership with 25 area churches which take turns accommodating them for 1 week each quarter. Asbury is one of the trusted church partners, and hosts the women 1 week every 3 months. Volunteers are always welcome to help prepare meals, move mattresses, or spend the night as Innkeepers, for this important Christian mission to our community's homeless women. Prayer Shawl Ministry The Prayer Shawl Ministry at Asbury Memorial UMC is one of the many ways that we tend to the varied needs of our congregation and community. Our shawls (also scarves and caps) are begun, worked, and finished with prayer. Each shawl brings to the recipient the warmth, love, and concern that, through prayer, have been absorbed into very stitch. She shawls are knitted, or crocheted, at home, or in our monthly gatherings at the church. The prayer shawls are made to give to people who hurt (those who are grieving, lonely, homebound, or in physical need) within our church and beyond. Our shawls are also given in celebration of love, new births, or life changes. To learn more about taking part in this worthy endeavor, call Mary-Jo Smith at 231-0086 S.A.M.S. (Senior Adult Ministry) The SAMs meet on the third Tuesday of each month at 10:00 a.m. For more information, please contact Derick Tickle at 252-9887. Prayer Chain MUSIC PROGRAMS

New ringers are welcome throughout the year and training will be readily provided by skilled musicians. Come join us and ring in the love of God. "For bells are the voice of the church;
They have tones that touch and search The hearts of young and old; One sound to all, yet each lends a meaning to their speech, And the meaning is manifold." --Longfellow For more information, please contact Ann Perkins at 254-0078. The Asbury
Stringers Group
The
Asbury Stringers originally formed twenty years ago around Dick Perkins
and his vast knowledge of old-time gospel songs. The group has
varied in size from its current three members to six and more, and is
always on the lookout for new members who play a stringed instrument
and sing. The ensemble has included hammered dulcimer, violin,
guitar, twelve-string guitar, mandolin, electric bass, and banjo, with
various playing styles represented. The Stringers have
participated in many Sunday morning church services as well as memorial
services, talent shows, festivals, square dances, picnics and such,
with a repertory extending beyond just gospel. For a while, the group toured local nursing homes and retirement centers, always to appreciative audiences. Rehearsals generally amount to a "brush-up" a day or two before scheduled performances, or learning a new song, or a combination of both. The Stringers' attitude is relaxed and open, always emphasizing the joy of music over the technical aspects, and always open to new members. For more information, please contact Gary Tweed at 665-9017.
